In the summer of 1945, the village of Bath, Ontario was a small town of about 300 souls with one bank, the Royal Bank of Canada.
Over lunch at the local diner two young but experienced bank robbers finalized their plans to rob the bank at gunpoint and make their escape.
Joe Peltier and Ulysses Lauzon entered the bank shortly before closing time, locked the door and held Alice Miller, the teenage bank teller, and the bank manager at gunpoint while they tied them up.
It’s unlikely these small time crooks ever imagined the sum they stole that afternoon with their two accomplices, Ulysses’ wife, Eileen and another man. In total they escaped with over $351,000 — $10,000 in cash and the rest in negotiable bonds and securities. (Over $5 million in today’s dollars), making a clean getaway.
Pulling off the then-biggest bank robbery in Canadian history!

Please reach us at Info@stalbanscentre.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.
An escape room is a game in which players are confined to a room or defined setting and must work together to find clues and solve puzzles to “solve” the objective and escape. Success in finding the objective and escaping is dependent on teamwork, cooperation, and creative thinking!
No! The entrance door is always unlocked and you can exit the game at any time in case of emergency, to use the washroom, or if you just need a break.
Online advance bookings for Escape St.Alban's must be made a minimum of 2 days (48 hours) prior to game time and can be made a month or more in advance. If you are under the online 2-day minimum, please call Sharon at 613-373-9401, as we would like to accommodate you if staffing allows.
Drop-in players may be able to book a time in person, if the time slot is available and we have the staff. We do prefer that bookings are made using our on-line calendar, where available days and times are shown.
We suggest you budget 90 minutes for your adventure. Orientation may take 10-15 minutes. The escape room experience is 60 minutes but bookings with fewer than 4 players may be allowed 15 extra minutes.
St. Alban’s Centre is located in a heritage building. We ask you to refrain from any actions that could damage the building or its contents. While we do not ask you to sign a confidentiality agreement, please respect future players’ enjoyment by not disclosing any details of the game.
The games have been designed to challenge adults but can certainly be enjoyed by younger children and their families. There is nothing gory, graphic, or scary about our rooms that make them inappropriate for younger players. All ages are welcome in the escape rooms. Anyone age 8+ is considered a “player” and must pay full price. Anyone 7 and under is considered a “non-player” and can tag along for free. Non-playing children MUST stay with, and in the care of their guardians throughout the game. Players 10 and under must have an adult in the room with them to play. Players 11-14 must have an adult chaperone on site with them. The adult does not need to play, but they must remain on site for the duration of the game. Players 15+ may play without an adult chaperone on site.
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled game start time. Leave time to find the location, and be sure to sign your digital waivers ideally before you arrive. Each booking gets 60-75 minutes in the room. If you are late, we may not be able to extend your time in the room.
If you or any of your players are symptomatic with COVID, we ask that you reschedule your booking. At this time, neither masks nor proof of vaccination are required to play. We recommend players wear masks indoors, especially during orientation. All bookings are private which means that you will only play with those in your party. Bookings are spaced to allow sufficient time for set up, sanitization and no contact between different groups of players.
Due to the historical nature of St. Alban's Centre, our escape adventure is not a barrier-free experience. We have taken measures to make our building and site more accessible with regards to mobility, however we are not yet able to make everything fully accessible, including the washroom. If you have further questions or concerns, please contact Kathleen at 613 438 4443, or by e-mail at Info@stalbanscentre.ca, and we'd be happy to discuss individual accessibility needs and accommodate you in any way possible.
