THE GREAT BATH BANK HEIST
In 1945 the village of Bath (pop. 300) became the site of the biggest bank robbery in Canadian history. Armed thieves escaped police and may have stashed the stolen loot in a historic church in nearby Adolphustown. Can you find it?
Thanks to generous support from the community, tower masonry repairs are now complete and other projects are progressing well. Thank you and stay tuned!
Learn about the unique windows of St. Alban's from local writers, and tour the church, built as a memorial to the United Empire Loyalists who founded Upper Canada (today's Province of Ontario). Tours run Saturday & Sunday through the Fall. High-quality picture books on the unique tiles and windows are for sale at St. Alban's Centre and online.
St. Alban’s has been a wedding venue since 1890. Planning a wedding and seeking a unique space for your ceremony? We would be happy to speak with you.
The first service at the newly built St. Alban the Martyr UEL Memorial Church was held in 1890. For almost 130 years, the congregation took pride in their familial and neighbourly connections to and association with the original United Empire Loyalists who carved Adolphustown farms and adjacent township lands out of virgin forest to build and sustain the region; local leaders from Loyalist stock and their neighbours here were vitally involved in the creation, and legal, political and social culture of Upper Canada, and later, the Dominion of Canada.
In 2018, St. Alban’s closed its doors as an Anglican Church, which led a group of community members to create our group, the Friends of St. Alban’s, to ensure repairs and maintenance keep our historic and beautiful church in sustainable shape. In 2020, Friends of St. Alban’s became a registered charity and we now lease the church and Rectory while purchase arrangements are being finalized.
Our vision is to preserve this beautiful heritage Church building and its Rectory while returning it to its long role as a valued community centre and resource.
Help us transform this historic church into a vibrant community centre. Our growing membership is helping expand community engagement and strengthens our efforts to seek funding assistance from others in the community, including businesses and governments.
Members and volunteers provide to help us make our vision a reality. We'll help you find a way to volunteer that best suits you.
