Our first Yard and Plant Sale in May of 2023 attracted many local visitors and got a lot of us primed for a new season of gardening.
Lots of vintage items and great art work got snapped up at our Yard & Garage Sale, and visitors got a taste of Hallowed Grounds new coffee and a look at the upgraded Used Books and Music Store.
Our membership drive through July boosted our numbers by 20 per cent, giving us more than a hundred "Friends of St. Alban's." Welcome to all and thanks for getting the word out.
On November 11, 2023 friends and neighbours gathered at our Remembrance Day ceremony to honour those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Guest speaker Warrant Officer James Brown, CD, spoke on the topic of "service," drawing on anecdotes from his operational tours to Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan.
Several dozen revellers gathered on December 10th, 2023 for a Christmas Songfest led by local musicians John and Christopher Hall. In the process, we also managed to collect two carloads of food donations for the Morningstar Mission in Napanee.
Thank you to the many people who joined us on November 5 for the launch of The Windows of St. Alban's -- A Century of Illumination. This beautifully photographed book details the history and artistry behind the extensive stained glass windows in St. Alban's. It explains the making of the windows and tells the stories of the people who inspired them. All proceeds will go toward the preservation of the architectural, artistic and cultural heritage of St. Alban's.
The energy and enthusiasm of young musicians created a festive atmosphere at St. Alban’s Centre on August 27th 2023, during an event to support the Harmony Music Lounge. Harmony Lounge is an after-school music programme in Napanee that aims to eliminate financial barriers for young students interested in music. Solo performers and rock bands from the charitable organization entertained the crowd. The bill included The Switzerville Sound, Sara Lalande, Kayleigh Beattie and Julia Clair, Jade Peters, Duncan Smith, Adam Chadwick, Hannah Clancy, PlaceHolder, and Nate The Nobody.
More than 130 people enjoyed the New Zealand Blue Cod from Mundell's at the sold-out fish fry on July 23, 2023. Our 2024 Fish Fry was also a sold-out event. Thanks to all participants for making the Fish Fry one of the best community events of the summer.
The annual UEL Service celebrates the Landing of the United Empire Loyalists in Adolphustown on June 14th, 1784. 2023's celebration held on June 18th in collaboration with the UEL Heritage Centre and Park, was a huge success. It included re-enacted battles, a church service, keynote speakers R. Donald Maracle Chief of the Mohawks of Bay of Quinte ~ with the traditional afternoon Tea Service.
St Alban's hosted a group from Seniors Outreach Services for lunch, a tour and some live music on July 27. Thanks to John McCormack at the Loyalist Parkway Commission for organizing and to Bill Peters on the piano.
Thanks to all who came to browse, buy and mix at our annual community sale on Mother's Day weekend. Money raised will help support the operation of St. Alban's and restoration of the historic building.
The Used Bookstore is located in the old Rectory. Along with many great reads, you can find CDs, DVDs and many great Vintage Vinyl Albums. The Used Bookstore is open all summer.
Donations are always welcome.
Author Jean Rae Baxter launched her new book Battle on the Ice, at St. Alban's on June 24. The seventh novel in her "Forging a Nation" series, it tells the story of 14 year-old Dory Dickson who unwittingly becomes entangled in the Rebellions of 1837.
